Acai Seeds and some other materials used in crafting of Organic Jewelry

 

Acai Seeds:

 

Acai (pronounced [asaˈi]) is a small round berry that grows in majestic palm trees. Acai palms are native to tropical Central and South America, from Belize south to Brazil and Peru, growing mainly in floodplains and swamps. In the Amazonian native dialet “Tupi”, Açaí means fruit that cries or expells water. It is sometimes spelled Assai in English.

 

Acai berries have been consumed by Amazon natives for hundreds of years and its healing and sustaining powers are legendary. These berries are highly regarded for its antioxidants. But apart from the use of its berries as food, the Açai palm has other purposes. Leaves may be used for making hats, mats, baskets, brooms and roof thatch for homes, and trunk wood, resistant to pests, for building construction. Besides that, seeds may be ground for livestock food or as a component of organic soil for plants. It is also used in traditional medical practices. The Acai fruit and roots have been used for treating gastrointestinal problems and sap as an astringent.

 

Seeds are larged used to make a variety of jewelry and souvenirs. The seeds are dried and drilled after they are extracted from the berries.

 

 

Coconut:

 

Coconut is a very versatile fruit with many purposes. It can be used in several different types of jewelry and accessories. The coconut is cut open and dried out before the hairy exterior can be removed. After that, it is sanded and cut into different shapes and sizes. Finally it is polished to bring out the beautiful natural marbled look of its shell.

 

The fibrous outer shell is often used in the manufacture of textiles.

 

Babaçú

The Babaçú is an abundant native palm tree found in the eastern Amazon and in the north and northeast of Brazil. It is considered the "tree of life" by the Amazonian natives. They believe that it can provide everything essential for human survival. The Babacu tree and its fruits are largely used by various industries, representing a very important source of income to Amazonian region.

It is estimated that more than 400,000 people in the north and northeast of Brazil make their living from the oil produced by the babaçú, and other products from the babaçú used as food, in construction and in making artisanal crafts.

The babacu oil is frequently used in cosmetics, cleansing and food products.

Some researches show that this magnificent tree has great potential of being used for the production of "biological fuel" and biomass fuel as well.

Golden Grass

Golden Grass is a plant that grows in the remote region of Brazil, Tocantins. Despite of its name, the Golden Grass doesn’t look like typical grass. The adult plant consists of a leaf rosette that is next to the surface to the ground and has about 04 centimeters of diameter.  It is an extremely rare plant and it can be harvested only once a year. Therefore, the use and trade of Golden Grass is seriously controlled by the Brazilian Federal Government. Golden Grass can be utilized and sold by the local community only, bringing the remote region of Tocantins economical development. Golden Grass is frequently used in the production of crafted works and fashion accessories in Brazil, but there is an increasing interested in accessories made with Golden Grass accessories in North America and Europe. Handbags and jewelry made with Golden Grass are now often featured in high Fashion magazines
